[break][break] as if his words had some sort of trigger on them, two of the unknown in jayden's possession appeared in a flash of light. the first of them, an unknown-k, twirled around oscar with a whirr of sound. trilling like the rice cooker does when it finishes. the other, an unknown-v, peers curiously at the picture that the rocket beast points to. his lone eye zones in on the text as it lobs back and forth gently, like that of a ticking clock.

[break][break] "i suppose... do you think unknown are somehow connected with the darkest day?" to be honest, jayden is not well-versed in the matter. everything he knows about unknown are restricted to the report in his phone, which was obtained through the events of cats vs. dogs.

[break][break] a frown pushes at jayden's lips as he considers the question that oscar clayton asks, pulling out a chair for himself.

[break][break] "the power of the league is growing," he says, thinking of MATIAS SILPH during littleroot and how those flames had blazed so easily. so vibrantly, as it joined their attacks towards chef quanto and dialga. "i just want to assist rocket in finding something of equal power."

[break][break] he remembers valerio, and how important the enforcer had been as a member of rocket, and the lunala that had been chased away on that fateful day. he remembers the power of chef quanto, and how he had called it so easily, pushing back waves of attackers in one simple roar of time.

[break][break] jayden pulls a pamphlet titled THE MYSTERIOUSNESS OF ULTRA-SPACE. it's an article that's been clearly ripped from the internet, printed on stationary that's shoved into a book.

[break][break] "is there something you're looking for in particular, si — i mean, oscar?"

[break][break] it was a habit he was trying to break. and failing.

a little stressful was one way to put it.

[break][break] then again, it wasn't like jayden had ever known any differently. growing under his parents' iron fist, and then under the kanto rocket regime had made him built for disaster. he was always on the precipice of it.

[break][break] expecting someone to push him over the edge.

[break][break] jayden frowns, as he flips through another book. this one is titled THE MYSTERIES OF SPACE & TIME. he thumbs carefully through the index, but it seems to only be a book discussing the various planets and the proximity of the earth among them. it speaks of nothing of alternate universes which - given the state of their last interaction with the DRK TRIAD - seemed to be a more pressing concern.

[break][break] "is it worth protecting our world?" he mused. "or should we find another?"

[break][break] ever since the events of the last rocket meeting, jayden had been wondering. especially with SEA HOENN so close and yet so far away, and kyurem inhabiting their current world as it was, he wondered if there was something to be gained for staking their claws into a world that was constantly on the precipice of disaster.

[break][break] he flips past a picture of an exploding star, looking up at oscar.

[break][break] "what do you think is our solution? avatars?"

interest gleans in jayden's expression as he looks at the page that oscar had flipped to. before it sours with disdain at the image.

[break][break] he didn't need a reminder.

[break][break] the rocket listens to his friend's words, contemplating them. oscar had a levelhead about these sorts of things, which was as much as displayed in his answer. he was right. jayden had never seen the allure of avatars or new worlds in the same way others might. he preferred stability over chaos -- ironic, given his place in rocket -- yet he could not deny it's necessity.

[break][break] "maybe it'll help if we put all the puzzle pieces out on paper."

[break][break] he reaches for an empty notebook, puling out a pen.

[break][break] "avatars. sea hoenn. cyberchase. the unknown."

[break][break] he scribbles them all down on a piece of paper.

[break][break] once more, his face sours at the reminder.

[break][break] "one of them must know something we do not - it's what allows them to speak on their perch like they do."
